Not a Book Review: Naomi Novik’s ‘Tongues of Serpents’
I remember hearing about how one of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time books (a series I have not and will not read) was basically a thousand-page peon to wheat. Now granted, this was no doubt snark, but it also pretty much describes how I feel about this book. [Remove wheat, insert sand and lizards.]
Colonial Australia could probably be a great place for an AU fantasy, but Novik makes it dreadfully boring: The least eventful road trip ever. Three chapters of plot in 300ish pages.
I enjoyed the first couple books of this series, but you know what? This is it. I’m out. Call me if she ever actually concludes anything.
